How to protect your computer during power interruptions.

We all know about the issues we are experiencing with power and storms at the moment. Have you ever stopped to think what the affect is on your electrical equipment?

There are two things you need to combat against in these conditions and it doesn’t just relate to businesses but to home users as well.

  1. Surge protection:

The best defence is a good offence, which is true! Get a surge protecting power board from a hardware store, electrical shop or your local computer store. Computers, as well as many other devices in your home have micro-processors in them. Even a 10 Volt fluctuation can disrupt the proper function of the device. You should always have devices plugged into surge protected boards.

  1. UPS protection:

A UPS is an uninterruptible power supply. It is a device that has battery storage built in and allows the device plugged into it to keep running for a short time when the primary power source is lost. It also provides protection from power surges, so it is a two in one product.

If you have a server or a computer that has important data stored on it or you are in the middle of working on something and the power goes out, a correctly setup UPS will notify a the computer to shut down safely and save your work.

I know none of us like power outages and cannot predict when they are going to happen. So put in action a safeguard plan to stop the disruption to one of your most valued electrical devices, your computer!
