Digital Disaster!
When will you have your Digital Disaster…. And how bad will it be?
If you store family photos, if you have important letters or emails, if you have financial or accounting data, if all the contact details of your friends ( address book) resides on your computer and you DO NOT have a back up system in place… THEN YOU are a perfect candidate for your very own "Digital Disaster".
Backing up is a vital part of digital living. You should have at least one backup copy easy accessible and another one stored in a safe place.
Do not be like the people who have told us “The thieves took our computer and all our backups”.
The answer is at least one of the backups should have been somewhere else!
Why is your data at risk? Some possible reasons are:-
-
Computer gets lost or stolen
-
Computer dies of old age
-
Hard Disk Drive fails
-
Computer gets hit by Electrical spike
-
Computer gets wet via flood or storm damage
-
Some one accidently deletes all your stuff
-
You get a malicious virus, spyware or malware infection.
-
Windows becomes corrupt
-
Windows has to be re loaded or restored
Every modern machine comes with a CD or DVD burner – SO THERE IS NO EXCUSE for you not having things that are important to you backed up – if you don’t know how – FIND OUT – DO IT NOW!
Backups (copies) can be easily made onto Thumb Drives, CD’s, DVD’s, and External Hard Disk Drives.
Remember, no computer warranty covers software, or the data on your computer (for “Data” think letters, photos, emails, address book, accounting files etc for “Software” think Microsoft Office, camera, printer, etc.)
Having seen many people upset because their backups are faulty – I say “You can’t have too many backups, test your backups to see you can read them on another machine, take backing up seriously!
