Servicing your computer

So why do our tech’s keep harping on about getting customers to service their computers yearly? Well because they look at computers the same way they look at cars.  To keep it running the way the manufacture intended, regular servicing is required.

Have a think about what you store on your computer, whether it be precious photos, sensitive documents and for business’s a lot of files that need to be retained for tax purposes. These are some of the reasons why you should service your computer.

What would you do if you were using your computer and you got this screen come out of know where:

Did that just make your heart sink or even bring a tear to your eye? We have all experienced something like this, yet we still don’t think about why it really happened.

We also still hear from people in these circumstances saying they haven’t backed up their data- but that my readers is an article for a different day! Today we are focusing on how things can go wrong with your PC if you do not get it serviced yearly.

So we all get our cars serviced, tyres checked, oil changed, etc.  Well your computer needs same sort of attention.  As it has components that can wear and tear it is advisable to have these components checked annually, so power supply, hard drive, etc.  Now on top of the hardware you also have software that should be checked over as well.

Hopefully you all run regular scans on your computer for virus and malware infections and also running your Microsoft Windows updates as well.  By making sure both these are done regularly you increase your overall protection to the software/data on your computer.

With the multitude of internet browsing we do on our computers it’s also good to clean off all the unwanted and unknown toolbars you may have incidentally installed along the way.  There are lots of other programs that install themselves as well, this is where out qualified tech’s come into play as they can service your computer to remove all those unwanted unnecessary programs making your computer run slower than it should.

As an example, we see a lot of computers that have two or more anti-virus progams installed.  This is a no no as they conflict with each other causing the computer to run slower.

As an analogy people tend to recognise “To have new tyres is fantastic. But without changing the oil in your car it won’t function as well as it could”.

So for your computers sake, give it some thought and book it in with our IT experts to give it a once over to make sure it is running the way it should be and potentially eliminate those critical failures which end up happening just when you don’t want them to.
