Keeping your photos and videos safe

Everybody is accumulating electronic data at fast rate and many of us are not saving as we go.

If we don’t backup or transfer our data from our devices you are at a higher risk of losing it or running out of space. Not only that, but when you do eventually get around to saving your data you have soooo much that it takes forever to do it.

If you have an Android or iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch) device you can save your pictures and movies to your computer, you don’t just have to use iCloud or Google. I have an iPhone so the steps to save your data are as follows:

  1. Firstly, you need to make sure your computer in turned on and ready to use.

  1. Once ready plug your device into your computer via the USB cable.

  1. C:\Users\dlindsay\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\Content.MSO\7D59537F.tmpYour Apple device will ask for permission for your computer to access this device – click Allow

  1. Now go to your file icon             on your computer and select your device from the list then click on the storage folder then click on DCIM folder. You may have multiple folders pop-up. Open them up to see which one you want to save. Note both pics and videos will be within these folders – they do not display in same folder names as your iPhone

  1. Select the folder or if first time select all (hold down ‘shift’ key and click on multiple folders) you wish to save to your computer and click on ‘Copy to’ (under ‘Home menu top of window). A drop-down list will come up with locations you can select to save your date to

  1. Select the folder you want to store your data in and click ‘Copy’. Keep and eye on this copying as if you have a large amount your device may time out and not complete full copy of data.

Now depending on how many files you have to copy this may take a while. Once done go to the folder you saved to and check your data is there. If all is ok you are safe to start deleting unwanted pictures and videos from your device. This will also help free up some space for you to save more precious memories.
