How to keep your pc running smoothly.
Most of us have a computer in the home or office. But how do you ensure that you keep it running smoothly. So that at the crucial moment you need it you have safeguarded yourself as much as possible from anything going wrong?
After a certain amount of time your computer gets dirty, and builds up unwanted programs and files. Also it is a mechanical device and components do wear out and need to be replaced from time to time. We recommend yearly servicing on your computer to keep it running in tip top shape.
But how can you manage your device in between your annual check-ups?
You can do a monthly clean up by removing any un-used programs and while you’re removing programs. To help your device start up quickly we recommend that you disable any programs that run on start-up, for example, Skype and Spotify.
You should also physically clean your mouse, keyboard and screen. (We recommend using a paint brush to get into the keys and using some LCD cleaner for your screens).
You should also schedule to do your backup. We cannot stress enough the importance of running a backup and are still a little shocked when we have customers who have NEVER backed up their data.
We recommend that you run a full anti-virus scan regularly and remember to stay away from untrustworthy websites. You should also look at clearing your browser history even now and then and emptying your ‘trash’ or ‘recycle bin’.
Remember you should never allow anyone but your Computer repairer to remote access you computer. Many companies have released notices stating that they will NOT call you to gain remote access to your computer. Including Microsoft!
If you regularly maintain your devices you will help avoid the stress they can cause with delays or failures in the long run. It is a bit like running your car, you need to check the oil, tyres and top up the water!
