The extra’s to factor in when buying a new computer.

With both Vista and XP end of life with Microsoft many of you may need to look at upgrading to a new computer. If your current computer is running either of these Windows operating systems then your computer is past is used by date.

When looking at replacing your computer you need to factor in more than just the computer if it is an older system as some of your accessories and software may not be compatible.

What you generally need to buy when looking at replacing your old computer:

Desktop Computer

Software (Office)/Monitor/keyboard/mouse/speakers/WiFi dongle/PC setup & data transfer

Notebook

Software (Office)/mouse/USB hub/Bag/Setup and data transfer

Tablet

Glass Protection/Cover/optional keyboard/USB hub/cable convertor/software (Office)/Setup and configuration of email

When looking at replacing your old computer with new, here are a few tips of what to ask:

  1. What operating system – Windows 10 is most commonly used one now

  1. Touch or non-touch - If you are buying a new notebook do you want touch screen

  1. Compatibility – will your current software and accessories run on the new system

  1. What comes with it – does any software/programmes/accessories come with the new computer

Generally when you buy a computer it comes in a box form and will require initialisation and setup before you can use it. If you are comfortable with computers you may want to do this yourself, you generally need to allow up to 20GB data allowance to enable you to run the necessary updates required.  Otherwise you can book it in with your local computer store to do this and transfer your data from your old computer to your new one.

So if you are in the market to replace your old computer, remember to factor in ALL the other extras that you may need to purchase as well. Your anti-virus software should be transferrable as long as you have your purchase details to enable activation on new device.

If you are unsure as to whether it is time to replace your current computer then book your computer in with your local computer store for a PC check today.  They can then advise on the health of your system and make recommendations going forward.
