Why have antivirus software?

Antivirus software is an essential asset to have on your computer or laptop. 

With different types of antivirus software available, it can be a minefield in choosing which one is right for you! If you do a Google search, you hit a huge list from Trend Micro, Norton and Kaspersky all trying to get your money, just to name a few. Plus you have the wide range of free versions that can do almost nothing, to some that will slow your system down as they check everything you do and everywhere you go. Trying to find a balance is the hard thing. 

 AVG is a good free version that covers the basic protection or you can go overboard with the likes of Norton who make it very hard to remove their software if you change your mind. You need to choose one that will suit your computing needs, such as for Personal use, for Business use or for Server versions and now even anti-virus software for Apple Mac systems.  

The biggest thing to remember with all antivirus software, there is always a delay between finding a new virus and the updates having a fix for it. So no anti-virus software will be 100% fool proof, but having one is better and safer than having none.  It comes down to how important do you rate your computer? So remember when you’re online, make sure your antivirus and operating system are up-to-date and safe search the web as you can never be too sure who’s made that page you’re looking at. 

A large amount of viruses now spread using links on Facebook pages and walls, seeming like a safe or interesting video or website, while in reality it has viruses working in the background. Newer anti-viruses have website filtering, or Facebook wall scanning, to protect you from malicious sites and links.
